Earlier this week, founder of the TRON network, Justin Sun, proudly tweeted his latest record-breaking purchase. His latest NFT shopping spree surpassed Crypto Punk sales records, with him paying $15 million worth of $TRON to get a Bored Ape Yacht Club Tron NFT.

Sun bought BAYC Tron Ape #6666 Joker. Of course, his actions didn’t go unnoticed by the NFT community. Most of the comments were naturally, extremely critical; saying that it is money laundering, the worst NFT marketing stunt ever, and the lamest purchase in history because you know, who buys a fake BAYC for that much. Either way, whether positive or negative, Sun got his moment in the limelight.

BAYC Tron NFTs are, as the name suggests, copy cats of BAYC on Ethereum. In fact, Mutant Ape minting is also now live. The lowest price of an Ape on Tron is currently at 2,500 TRX (around $250 USD at time of writing). Perhaps, Sun’s move didn’t move the floor all that much. However, Tron fans have an opportunity to ape in on the craze with more affordable prices.

What is certain, is that NFT Twitter has cast the final, universal decision: That this not how the space works. Not a good idea to toot your own horn.

See Justin Sun’s announcement below.

Crypto Punk #NFT became the most expensive @Twitter avatars worth $10M! But today, the world record has been renewed again.

I bought a new Ape avatar with $15M worth of #TRX today!

After all, the art of the #NFT avatar is the new artistic showcasing for our generation. https://t.co/Jmam6rv2Xb
