World-famous principal dancer at The Royal Ballet, Natalia Osipova, is selling the first-ever ballet NFTs. The NFTs are up for sale at auction house Bonhams.
The video series, titled “Natalia Osipova: Triptych,” features three prominent and memorable performances. Two of them are from the classical ballet “Giselle” and one from “Left Behind,” which she performs with her partner and fiancé Jason Kittelberger.
“As a dancer you need money to have independence,” said Osipova. “At my own dance company, I want to provide young dancers with a platform where they can showcase their art, and potentially even perform their own NFTs,” she added.
The acclaimed ballerina hopes to use the funds from the auction to establish her own dance school and also launch a dedicated NFT platform for dancers, acknowledging the fact that dancers’ careers are short-lived and they need to plan for other sources of income.
Osipova sees major opportunities in NFTs, and as a way for her immortalize these important moments in her career while also sharing them with her audience worldwide. She said, “These performances are extremely significant for me, and I am delighted that global audiences can appreciate them in a way that has never been possible before.”
The auction will run until December 10, and the three NFTs are expected to fetch in a total of at least $80, 000.
