Last weekend, Bill Murray and his partners made a big splash at the exclusive NFT event put on by Web3 startup Project Venkman and comedy website The Chive. Held at an Oceanside, California golf course, the “Bill Murray 1,000 NFT Project” brought together Murray fans for a day of fun and NFT excitement.

Murray hosted pie-eating contests, told stories, and talked with fans for hours, giving them a unique and memorable experience. This event served as a proof-of-concept for NFT celebrity projects, with Project Venkman and The Chive hoping to replicate its success with future live events for Murray fans.

The actor joined the NFT market with a collection that combines his signature humor and love of giving back to the community. In a recent interview, Murray stated that he would only participate in NFTs if they could be both fun and do some good in the process.

The Bill Murray NFTs include generative art made by the actor, written stories from his life, access to live events, and membership in a private community. The sales from the collection benefited the Chive Charity as well as other causes, including Goat Hill, a rehabbed community space saved from development.

The first batch of Original Bill (OB) NFTs sold out in just 30 seconds after going live on Coinbase NFT last July. The sales generated nearly $1.4 million in ETH, with buyers willing to spend over $1,850 to join the exclusive community.
