Over recent months, a number of high-profile developers have declared an interest in NFT gaming. However, way sooner than expected, one such organization has come out guns ablazing, launching its own bespoke NFT management platform, along with inaugural showstopper NFTs.

Straight off the bat, Ubisoft is debuting a fine set of NFT skins for online war-fest, Ghost Recon: Breakpoin, while, in unison launching Ubisoft Quartz, a platform to link up games to the non-fungible world. This new NFT portal will operate as an interaction point between gamers and NFTs. However, P2P sales will occur off platform on the Rarible and OBJKT NFT marketplaces.

The NFTs

The first of three limited edition “Digits” NFTs will drop at 6PM UTC on December 9, with the arrival of a M4A1 tactical weapon. A Wolf Enhanced Helmet and Wolf Enhanced Trousers will follow suit on the 12th and 15th December respectively, all of which are up for grabs for free! However, in order to acquire these prized assets, gamers must have an in-game XP of at least 5 and be a certified adult.

What it means for gamers, is a move away from the traditional “walled garden” approach where in-game assets are maintained exclusively by the publisher and only tradeable within a fine set of rules. Ubisoft assures its customers that this new endeavour will provide increased autonomy when owning in-game items.

Reactions from Farther Afield

Twitter dwellers have reacted with both joy and despair in equal measure, with notable blockchain gaming ambassadors Cagyjan and Loopify flying the flag for NFTs. Opponents on the other hand, are spouting ill-researched claims over environmental implications and show apparent distain for the ability to trade in-game assets independently.

Ubisoft, of course, made sure to tackle the ecological issue right from the offset and have therefore launched their NFTs via the energy efficient Tezos blockchain. As a result, the Tezos token spiked 39% following the news, taking it back up to the dizzying heights of last week.
