Manufacturer of fizzy drinks, and one time owner of the world’s 6th largest navy, Pepsico, is about to drop its first NFTs. A set of 1,893 generative microphones celebrating the company’s rich association with music.

The “Genesis Mic Drop Collection” represents Pepsi’s first-ever foray into the world of NFTs, and will follow the model of a standard PFP drop where a number of algorithmically randomized traits create a collection of unique collectibles. The number proving some significance as it represents the date the company was founded.

Members will have the opportunity to join a waitlist that opens at 12pm EST on December 10 and four days later, at 12:30pm EST on December 14, successful applicants can mint their Pepsi-themed NFTs. Furthermore, each item is free of charge, however, minter’s are responsible for covering any gas fees.

Each NFT will sit on the Ethereum blockchain, while Pepsi has pledged to offset the carbon generated by the promotion. As a result, owners are free to trade the items independently on third party marketplaces.

Pepsi’s initial attempt at NFT discourse has all the hallmarks of a drunk uncle at a party. However, the interaction between Budweiser and Facebook is enough to put a man off his breakfast.
