Sports betting operator DraftKings have announced their collaboration with the NFL Players Association (NFLPA). The collaboration will see the launch of a gamified NFT collection on the DraftKings marketplace during the 2022-2023 NFL season.
The partnership between DraftKings and NFLPA was formed with the aim of creating authentic connections between fans and their favorite teams. The duo believes that this can be done through expanding the offerings of the DraftKings marketplace via gamified NFL player NFTs. The upcoming NFT collection will feature NFTs that can be used in player-vs-player NFT based games involving fan-favourite players. The collection will also be available on the Polygon network.
Beth Beiriger, Senior Vice President of Product Operations at DraftKings marketplace said: “The future of fandom is unfolding in front of us, and few organizations beyond DraftKings are as equipped to capitalize on the increasing intersection between sports and NFTs that will be cornerstones of engagement and entertainment within Web 3.0.”
This isn’t the first collaborative effort of DraftKings, as they went live in August with an inaugural Tom Brady NFT Collection. The collection was in partnership with Autograph, an NFT platform co-founded by Brady himself.
It is also not the NFL’s first crypto-venture, as it began a partnership with Ticketmaster in November 2021 in order to further demonstrate the NFL’s adoption of blockchain technology. The partnership enabled select game tickets to be tied to NFT collectibles.
