Serenade, an NFT marketplace for collecting music-related digital collectibles, has raised $6 million in a recent investment round. Based out of Sydney, Australia, it was apt that the most notable contributor of the round was no other than fellow countryman and A-list actor, Hugh Jackman.
Joining Jackman in the funding round were an array of other music industry entities, such as Damian Christian of Atlantic Records, Reynold D’Silva of Silva Screen Records, Danny Rogers of Lunatic Entertainment, Bernard Fanning of Powderfinger, Paul Piticco and Jessica Ducrou of Splendour in the Grass/Secret Sounds, Jaddan Comerford of Unified Music, Nathan McLay of Future Classic, Dan Rosen of Warner Music Group and David Hancock of Afterpay.
Launched in 2021, the Serenade platform allows music fans to purchase a variety of NFTs, such as digital artwork, digitally signed albums, or one copy of a song released via Serenade exclusively. Its most recent high-end collaboration was with the Brit Awards, which saw the release of multiple collections based on winners from the annual award show.
When speaking on what the company will do with the fresh injection of capital, its CEO Max Shand said it’ll be leveraged to enhance its current NFT offerings and grow its artist partnership teams across the US, UK and Australia.
Shand also had this to say on what the mass showing of confidence means for the company: “There is clearly an enthusiastic demand for eco-friendly, easy-to-understand, artist and fan-friendly NFTs and the fact that so many respected music and creative industry professionals have backed us with personal investments is humbling”.
