Sorare, the formidable football (soccer) trading card NFT platform, has ventured into the wider world of sports for the very first time to form a partnership with America’s Major League Baseball (MLB).

Currently dubbed ‘Sorare MLB NFT’, the new platform will be the first free-to-play, NFT-based baseball game, which will simultaneously introduce the MLB’s 11.75 million audience to a completely new way of interacting with the sport.

Although further details on the platform are set to be revealed closer to the product launch (which will take place in summer 2022), it appears that the game will mimic that of its ever-popular football counterpart. Fans will be encouraged to create the best team of MLB player NFT cards as possible, which they can then share and celebrate through a gamified experience. In addition, opportunities to connect with athletes and clubs during live baseball games are also expected to be on offer to the community.

OneTeam, the licensing partner of the MLB Players Association (MLBPA), facilitated the landmark partnership, with its Chief Product Officer Henry Lowenfels having this to say: “We are proud to have collaborated with visionary partners in Sorare, who have reimagined the fan experience through their NFT-based games. The partnership will bring fans even closer to the extraordinary MLB players they admire, as we explore new forms of gameplay and collection”.
