Sadly, fans of the Degen Trilogy will have to wait a while as Coinbase has announced that it is putting it on the back burner.
Earlier this year, Coinbase announced the Degen Trilogy, a planned trio of short films inspired by the Bored Ape Yacht Club. These films were to be released in the run-up to and after the launch of Coinbase’s NFT marketplace and were a highly anticipated project.
No More Degen Trilogy?
To its credit, Coinbase released the trilogy’s first installment back in July 2022. It was a five-minute animated feature that saw multiple Bored Ape cameos. The featured apes were submitted by their owners, who were paid a fee for using the images.
But all this is over for now, as the second and third installments have been put on hold.
“We are constantly evolving our content strategy and have decided to pause production of the remaining two films while we identify the best path forward for the creative. We will continue to focus on more immediate creative endeavors.” a statement from the company said.
No reason was given for this decision though there are several possibilities. It could be a result of the ongoing bear market, the poor critical reception of the first, or a change in creative vision.
